In this position...Β
The Dimensional Systems Engineer (DSE) will be responsible for developing locator and assembly strategies that analytically demonstrate the capability to deliver vehicle level fit and functional requirements. In this role, the DSE will be supporting major Ford programs from the studio concept phase through final engineering gateways on Interior and/or Exterior commodities. The DSE will work closely with Design and Release Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers and our suppliers to develop and validate the overall dimensional strategy.
ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll do...
- Lead the Digital Pre-Assembly 3 (Variation) deliverable for a given program and commodity and drive compliance to the requirements of the engineering gateways.
- Establish gap and flush nominal and tolerance requirements for new programs.
- Lead cross-functional team meetings to develop Locating and Assembly Strategies that meet program fit requirements.
- Create Pre-Print Drawings (PPD) that specify component and end-item Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Perform 2D RSS and 3D VSA studies to predict system variation capability for Appearance and Functional requirements.
- Analyze internal and external production data to leverage tolerance opportunities.
- Develop and implement dimensional enablers to resolve non-compliant DPA 3 requirements.
- Lead variation related issue resolution and escalation on forward models in management forums.
- Validate and sign External SCCAF documents at UPV2.
- Validate and sign released GD&T drawings, 3D PMI and CAD at P-Release.
- Validate Checking Fixture design meets GD&T intent.
- Benchmark external competitor dimensional strategies.
- Improve upon existing department processes, standards, and best practices.
QualificationsYou'll have...Β
Bachelorβs degree in engineering.
5+ years of automotive body interior/exterior related experience.
Even better, you may have...
Master's degree in engineering.
8+ years of automotive Body Interior and/or Exterior related experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Demonstrated knowledge of Root-Sum-Squared (RSS) tolerance analysis methodology.
Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing and assembly plant processes, procedures, tooling, equipment, and facilities.
Demonstrated ability to investigate quality problems and to apply sound technical judgement to develop potential solutions.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
Familiarity with TeamCenter and CATIA or other similar software.
3D Tolerance Analysis experience using Vis-VSA, 3DCS or related software.
Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Demonstrated knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) methods.
Demonstrated ability in CATIA: GSD, Part Design and 2D Drafting Workbenches.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
